Clad in an off-the-shoulder Moschino sweatshirt, high waisted short red shorts, and the graffiti covered high tops from her Boombox video, actress and singer Laura Marano bounded into the Mall of America Green Room with hugs for all. Of course, “all” consisted of me and my 11-year-old son, who hijacked my interview time for his own blog. Couldn’t blame him—he was a big fan of Austin & Ally, the Disney show that launched Laura to fame.
She filled the Rotunda for her first Mall of America appearance, a mini concert and meet and greet with fans. Speaking of fans, Laura has 1.8 million on Twitter and 4.7 million on Instagram. But she carries a FLIP PHONE!
For her inaugural visit to MOA, Laura’s wish list included a visit to Sea Life Minnesota Aquarium, as many rides as possible at Nickelodeon Universe (“is there a log ride? I’ve got to do the log ride!”). Her must-hit stores: Nordstrom and Free People.
After her spirited performance, she might have added a stop at one of the malls hair extension kiosks: her weave fell out, mid performance! Laura’s manager quickly scooped it off the stage, and Laura—whose long, wavy hair still looked plenty full—let out a laugh and just kept dancing.
