Restaurant openings have outpaced new stores lately at Mall of America. Here are the latest dining spots to try.
Piada Italian Street Food
326 North Garden
The gateway to Culinary on North, this fast casual chain won’t quite transport you to the streets of Rome, but it does offer fresh options on the fly—made-to-order salads, wraps, and pasta bowls. There’s a bit of a learning curve, so read the menu before you step in line. A “tasca” is an Italian sandwich on thin crust dough; a “piada” is a wrap baked on a stone grill. May we recommend balancing out an order of the garlic dough with the Tuscan Kale Detox salad. Entrees are priced under $10. Kids meals are $4.99. Thumbs up for the Italian sodas on tap.
Zio Modern Italian
320 South Avenue
From the owners of Crave, a new Italian restaurant serving pasta, pizza and paninis along with seafood and steaks with entree prices in the $16 to $30 range. The extensive kids menu includes everything from cheese pizza ($5) to grilled salmon with polenta ($8). The space itself, which includes a bar, is modern, inviting, and open…if only it opened onto something other than the dim and chaotic corridor across from the food court. Reservations accepted.
